Kesselly-Sleh Campaign Demands James Larsah Board Leadership to Lift Siege on Confirmation of Elections Commission Nominees
Washington, DC, August 6, 2008: The Kesselly-Sleh Campaign welcomes the
July 29, 2008 nominations by the Wettee Administration to facilitate
the full structure of the Elections Commission of the Union of Liberian
Association in the Americas (ULAA).
We have observed with gross disappointment the barefaced delay by the ULAA Board of Directors under the leadership of Mr. James Larsah to inaugurate urgent steps designed to facilitate the confirmation process.
Mr. Anthony V. Kesselly - Candidate for ULAA President
The Kesselly-Sleh Campaign has noted that despite the exigency that should have been accorded the electoral process, we continue to witness a crass lackadaisical attitude by the Larsah Board Leadership to take gravely its responsibilities and proffer the much needed guidance in this matter.
The Kesselly-Sleh Campaign is constrained to remind Chairman Larsah that we will not endure any further impediment by his leadership in slackening the confirmation of the nominees because such impediment may nevertheless have the budding of undermining the electoral process, something which must be rejected at all levels.
We therefore challenge Chairman Larsah to muster the courage and do what is logically and legally right at this time by ascribing to the Board’s confirmation powers and halt any dubious designs directed at undermining the peaceful course of Elections 2008.
Our support for a fully constituted Elections Commission is based on our pledge to sustain the constitution of ULAA and uphold the rule of law within the confines of our vision for ULAA while promoting equity and mutual co-existence.
We strongly believe that in the face of Mr. Larsah’s reluctance, certain individuals would elect to accuse the Kesselly-Sleh Campaign of complicity in a matter that is constitutionally reserved for the Board of Directors. It can be safely said that such allegations are inopportunely based on tomfoolery, subterfuge, deception and sometimes loutish ignorance.
While we appreciate the need for a consolidated approach to resolving elections related issues, the Kesselly-Sleh Campaign will not play the role of the ULAA Board or Administration as few of our cynics may seem to suggest.
We wish to reaffirm that the Kesselly-Sleh Campaign will enthusiastically remain committed to fostering mutual respect and cooperation with other contesting parties while resolving to preserve its cardinal role of projecting a leadership vision based on compelling judgment buttressed by firm analysis; judgment that is not propelled by naughtiness and mischief.
We wish to further assure our compatriots that the Kesselly-Sleh Campaign will not relent until the Elections Commission is fully constituted as provided for by the Constitution of ULAA and conduct the elections under a free, fair and transparent manner.
We have now realized to this point that the hindrance in completing the composition of the Commission purely lies within the powers of Chairman James Larsah that is why we are kindly urging ULAA Chapters and peace loving Liberians to electrify Mr. James Larsah to act without unjustifiable delay.
