They’re called Liberian students in China – Liberians studying in
China. There’re more than fifty of them in the far-away land. Some went
there last year; others have been there for at least three years.
While the Liberian students in China are focused on their studies, they did not forget to do what groups of Liberians everywhere generally do – form themselves into an established entity.
The students organized themselves into the Liberian Student Union In China – LSUIC, for short. The group had its Second Annual Conference from July 24-27, 2008, in the city of Wuhan, the most populous city in central China. The conference also conducted the election of new leaders for the organization. They’re to manage the affairs of LSUIC for the next two years.
Those elected are Mr. J. Alexander Nuetah, president; Mr. Sampson K.P. Chea, vice president; Mr. Zizi E. Cyrus, secretary-general; Mr. Presley K. Wesseh, financial secretary and Ms. Massah M. Sonie, treasurer. They all were inducted during the conference.

In his inaugural address, the president-elect, Mr. Nuetah, promised to work to unite Liberian students in China, to improve the relationship between the students and the Liberian Embassy in Beijing, as well as the relationship between the Liberian Embassy in Beijing and the Ministry of Education in Liberia.
Mr. Nuatah also encouraged his fellow students to become more involved in the activities and uplift of the Union, stating, “The Union is our home away from home.”
A great Independence Day Dinner was held on Saturday, July 26. Unfortunately, the students could only get and eat Chinese food, with their fingers fighting to get used to the Chinese chopsticks, like a kindergarten kid learning how to write A-B-C. They wished there were dishes of dumboy with heavy du-du soup, fufu with palm butter, rice with torgborgee or fried cassava leaves or fried okra. It was a great day for the students, though.
The Liberian students in China study various disciplines, including educational economics, agricultural economics, financial accounting, business and finance, management, medicine, biochemistry, organic chemistry, micro-biology, mathematics, chemical engineering, physics, architectural engineering and Chinese traditional medicine. A few of them have just completed their programs of studies.
