While our people are suffering and some cannot even afford a daily
meal; while our children are dying because we cannot afford a decent
health care, while parents cannot afford to send thier children to
school, the UP-led government is boasting that the GDP of the country
has increased and we must all begin to celebrate and say that all is
well.

Fellow Gbarzon citizens, I will proudly state that today's generation of the District is
uniquely qualified to take on the challenges that are facing our people
with respect to development through unity in the District. These are
very special times because this generation has also learned that
self-reliance and self-sufficiency are the keys to self-development.
Therefore, the District’s committed sons and daughters must spearhead
any progress with respect to development and unity in the district.

Fellow Grand Gedeans:
I bring you greetings today in the name of progress and in the name
of Grand Gedeh Association of Minnesota, GGAM. Few weeks ago, the peace
loving citizens of Grand Gedeh County residing in Minnesota decided to
finally have a legal institution of Grand Gedeans after many years of
meeting illegally.

....is it true that “brain drain” is the main reason why LAMCO, Bong
Mines, BF Goodrich, and other companies operating in the gold, diamond,
rubber, and iron ore industries of Liberia, and depleting the natural
resources of Liberia, failed to hire Liberians in top managerial posts?
Are Liberians so dull that these companies could not find suitable
Liberians with the mental, physical, and psychological capacities to
train to take up senior management posts in these companies within the
30, 40, and 50 or more years some of them operated in Liberia?....

...ULAA, I am afraid, will not make any real dents in the lives of
Diaspora Liberians unless it reforms itself to respect the ULAA
Constitution and diversify its recruitment methods and leadership
structure. This ULAA Administration should invoke Article 25 and
recruit new members into ULAA from religious institutions, county and
alumni associations, and other qualifying entities, in addition to the
usual community associations....

...I can tell you from experience that change always begins with a baby
step or an idea. It is a window of possibility! Take action to effect
change, and then develop the tenacity to stay the course. Work hard day
and night like the tropical black ants in your desire to effect change.
And do not worry about who gets or gives you credit, even when ordinary
and powerful people take over your idea. This is what you want to
happen in the first place. Change the world for the common good of
humanity but do not try to own or corrupt the world. Nothing we own in
this life because even the carbon or stardust of our bodies is simply
loaned from the sacred womb of nature....

.......after 162 years of national independence as a nation-state and people,
it is now time, especially after 14 years of civil war that we in
Liberia begin anew to learn about ourselves, our history, and our
culture. We need to cultivate understanding and cooperation amongst
ourselves as Liberians and work together in peace to build a united,
stable, and prosperous homeland. Liberia needs to create a national
cultural identity that sets us apart from the rest of the peoples of
Africa and the world by digging deeper into our indigenous culture,
traditions, and mores to provide Liberian literature, and other texts.
Liberia is foremost an African country, so Liberia cannot successfully
embrace, mimic, and practice western culture and traditions no matter
how hard it tries.....

......My brothers and sisters, we the Bassa people have a leadership philosophy, which is humanism (servanthood). A child born within the Bassa culture gets the collective attention of all members of the culture. The Bassa gbo hwidiin hwodo-dyua or worldview, like almost all traditional societies, is that ‘leaders are born and not made’ with campaign money or soft-money. The cultural values dearest to the “House of Bassa”—those spiritual practices that sustain us—must be continued and never wavered....

....In Margibi County there is much despair on the faces of children and
adults, as in other parts of Liberia, due to the effects of the civil
war and the high rate of unemployment in our country. But Margibi
Country, because of its strategic physical location, can serve as a hub
for medical treatment to the nearly 21,500 Liberian children who die
each year from malaria, and the nearly 72,000 Liberians who have died
from HIV/AIDS....
