“The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.” ~ Oscar Wilde
Ladies and Gentlemen I have been away for a long while; however, last year 20008, at the end of the year and the eve of 2009 I visited a church for the new year celebration many of my friends said let us stay home and buy beers to watch the new years celebration at the New York time square look at the thousand lights bulls raised by I refuse to do so and went to worship my God. When I entered into the church the choir begin to sing a song called "Try a little kindness...."
The first thing that ran on my mind was a story told by Jesus Christ about the pharisees who saw a helpless man by the road side but refused to help him the man sat there suffering until a good Samaritan stopped to help the helpless man.
The Pharisees did nothing to help the helpless man, even though they were often the most vocal and influential people They were also known as pious, and thought to be loyal to God, or loved of God,
I was angry when I read that story and proud of the little guy who helped the helpless man and saw him as my hero and I wondered if the pharisees were worshiping Man or God? The lesson from the Pharisees' example is that self-righteousness is not righteousness, and that God's true people are to live according to all of God's Word, not just certain parts that are most convenient or to one's own liking.
The answer I came up with is if the pharisees were worshiping Man then he is right for his action but if they were worshiping God that aloof behavior was wrong..
My question is why will such a man be a leader in a moral organization?
This also brought to my mind the story I read of our President Madam Sirleaf, who paid special tribute to Mr. Karyea for "demonstrating a true spirit of honesty and integrity in support of Government's determination to fight corruption in all sectors. Selected by the Civil Service Agency as the 2008 Civil Servant of the Year, Mr. Karyea currently serves as Deputy Chief Examiner at the Ministry of Finance. He was singled out for recognition for his refusal to accept US $20-thousand offered him by a drug trafficker in 2006 to facilitate the smuggling of a huge quantity of cocaine into the country. The President was full of praises for Mr. Karyea who then served as a custom officer at the Roberts International Airport. Mr. Karyea was also presented a cash reward of US 1-thousand dollars by the President."
In the mean time government officials that should lead and be loyal to the nation end up selling out our nation and not helping the people they are supposed to govern. For example Charles Taylor and his former officials betrayed the nation they were supposed to be loyal to and they completely looted our treasury.
Mr. Karyea the ordinary citizen showed more morality and kindness than the so call big government officials that were supposed to be held to high standards and esteem. This was a reflection of the good Samaritan story of the Bible.
Leaders have become people who look out for self interest and not for the good of the people they are supposed to govern. Morality has been thrown out the window and self promotion has become the order of the day.
This continued confusion between what should be moral and not might very well put the church to extinction.
The church in the near future faces serious risk of being closed down by the state because homosexuality is slowly becoming legalized, and homosexual priests are being sold are being "cool". Pastors will be urged not to preach against homosexuality and protests against immorality will become a sin like a criminal offense.
We all have "Try a little kindness" or else we'll experience another Sodom and Gomorrah.
“Try a Little Kindness”
If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he's sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and stay you're going the wrong way
You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets
Don't walk around the down and out
Lend a helping hand instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show every day
Will help someone along their way
You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets
You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets
