Information reaching our news desk indicates that the co-Chairman of
the Liberian Community in Libya, Peter Daoh, died last Friday, October
30, 2009, at his Shala-tee-saa residence in Tripoli.
According to Mr. William Teah, who is the Special Task Force Coordinator of the Liberian Community in Libya, Mr. Daoh died five days after he had been discharged from the Shala Zawia Hospital where he had been operated on for appendix.
“He was discharged on October 25th and told to return on the 31st for some check up, but he died a day before the appointment. It’s too sad. He was an active member of the Liberian community here,” remarked Mr. Teah lamentingly.
Mr. Daoh, who had Higher Diploma in Electricity from the High Institute for the Training of Male Instructors in Libya, was an alumni of the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Liberia.
Reports have it that the late Peter Daoh was a former player of the Bame Football Team in Liberia, specifically during the 1980's. In Libya, he served as the coach of the Liberian Community Soccer Squad. He led the community team to three tournaments in which the team took second place in two. He was also the former coach of the Africa Unity Club Soccer Team in the Libyan Jamahiriya.
Sources in Libya have indicated that Mr. Daoh was part of the delegation that met with the Liberian Traditional Chiefs and Elders when they attended a special meeting with Libyan Leader Ghadafi in 2008. During the meeting, Mr. Peter Daoh, on behalf of the community team, presented a trophy to the chiefs and elders. Besides, when the Lone Star of Liberia played in Libya last year, he and the Liberian community met with them. He, along with the Chairman and members of the Liberian community, also met with Ambassador George Weah during his (Ambassador Weah’s) private visit to Libya in 2005.
According to reports, the Liberian Embassy in Tripoli and officials of the Liberian Community in Libya are collaborating on how to go about the funeral arrangement, as they await words from Mr. Daoh’s family in Liberia.
Mr. Joseph Success Pokpe, Chairman of the Liberian Community in Libya, and Mr. William Teah, Special Task Force Coordinator of the Liberian Community in Libya, have indicated that they will provide the public with additional information about the situation.
Meanwhile, the Liberian Community in Libya has opened a book of condolence in Tripoli in honor of the late Peter Daoh.
