Liberian Enlightment Forum discusses Female genital mutilation Print E-mail

LIBERIAN ENLIGHTENMENT FORUM GOES LIVE THIS SUNDAY ON RADIO LIB.

Female genital mutilation is an ancient rite practiced mostly in some sub-Saharan and North African countries The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that between 100 million and 140 million girls and women have undergone some form of FGM.

As a very deeply rooted cultural and religious tradition still practiced in over 28 African and Asian countries, up to two million girls per year are at risk. (Medical Encyclopedia, n.d)

In some countries where it is practiced, FGM is often justified as a social custom that is desirable because it checks "nature" (i.e. sexual drive among women) and it also helps in the initiation of young girls into womanhood. However, the United Nations through the efforts of The World Health Organization has declared FGM an attack on women, and a practice that should be criminalized under the provisions of “human rights abuse” (WHO 2004). As the debate is raging, with two sides of the story (one side engaging fiercely in a crusade against the practice as a form of abuse and the other side, traditionalists who have ascribed to the doctrines of cultural traditions that is necessary for the society) over the issue of female circumcision, in between are many who are still confused about the scientific evidence and the cultural justifications regarding the practice.

Join us this Sunday (November 1, 2009) live on Liberia’s #1 Internet Radio Station-RADIO LIB (http://radiolib.com) as the Liberian Enlightenment Forum talk ”The Talk”. We will be addressing the following:
Is FGM a human rights issue? If so, is the label “human rights” jeopardizing the state of our traditional customs?
Are there Economics implications to FGM? If so what are they?
Should the practice be abolished or modified?

Let man hear their ears...
Human Rights is an African Rights issue. We need to learn to solve our own problems instead of having people who are anti-African solve our problems. Just listen to UNMIL radio for 2 hours and hear the brainwashing and whitewashing that is forced down our people's ears. Aid agencies ina LIB are posing as Saviors and Liberators of Africa. The VOICE of our Teachas and Prophets have been silenced by mis-educating and dis-educating our people. Eurocentric hoggwash needs to be banned from LIB.

Yes, FGM should be stopped. It is as un-African as homosexuality. It violates the Sacred.

We need to teach Afrocentric history and know Self. We need to champion Pan-Africanism and emancipate Self. We need to keep Article 27 and identify Self.

UNMIL Radio is it true that without white folks Liberia cannot rise? And are you surely-sure that we are racist? Who is the real racist and who is teaching racist propaganda?

Cannabalism is a tradition also.

Each one teach one. Spirit pass Culture.

I like the way you think
when you allow your reality to be defined by others, you are living a false reality.

when you allow your reality to be defined by others, they will continue to CONtrol you psychologically. when you can CONtrol a person psychologically, you CONtrol their thoughts and actions.

SUN people continue to allow their former oppressors to define our reality for us, instead of us defining our reality from Afrikan eyes and Afrikan centered perspective.

UNMIL radio and bbc are propaganda and MIS-education tools. SUN people must always be on guard when CONsuming news and other so called analysis from those euro-centered propaganda, brainwashing tools; especially news and analysis about us.
