liberia_grx“Classic Modern Day Colonialism and Self-Sufficiency” Is Liberia an Independent Nation? Or Is She a Colony of the “Modern Day System of Colonialism”? Part II

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” We cannot be silent; we cannot leave it to others to see our countries through because now is the time for all good men/women to come to the aid of their country “(Haiti, Liberia, Sierra Lone, Grenada, Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, etc.)” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The “Classic Modern Day Colonialism” is a story of lack of self-sufficiency, national identity and inheritance in Liberia that leads to disunity and individualism across the country.  It is a story of reclaiming our independence for self-sufficiency, national identity, unity and achieving the greatest potential in the face of adversity. The “Classic Modern Day Colonialism” is a story of colonialism in the 21 century between developed nations (colonial powers) and developing nations (colonies). It is a story of lack of empowerment for the people and the dependency of former colonies now called developing nations on their former colonial powers. The inheritance of unemployment and underemployment that served as common factors for developing nations across the world and the wilding of the education, leadership, economic and gender gaps in those nations.

Since the inception of declarations of independence for many former colonies now called developing nations across the world such as Haiti, Liberia, Sierra Lone, Grenada, Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, etc. Today, it is absurd that these former colonies now called developing nations stay depend on the old system of colonialism and/or the outside world to feed and educate their people. The colonial  power now called developed nations have implemented classic modern day system of colonialism to control their former colonies (developing nations) in the form of financial, health, education, climate change and other regulations.

The declaration of independence for sovereignty and from physical servitude needs to be supplemented with the declaration of independence for self-sufficiency in all former colonies (developing nations) including Liberia, Sierra Lone, Grenada, Ghana, Nigeria, Haiti, Guinea Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Cote d’Ivoire, etc. because the colonial powers across the world have exploited the natural resources, including restraining national development and unity in their former colonies just to keep those nations down. The colonial powers now called (developed nations) across the world have implemented financial, education, health, and climate change regulations called the system of borrowing, which usually comes with what you can do and what you cannot do as a nation. They say you may borrow from us but you cannot carry out certain development with the money borrowed unless we approved the development. Many of these former colonies called developing nations spend decades paying out debts that have been transferred from generations to generations and these debts are immaterial to empowerment and to the declaration of independence for self-sufficiency.

Today, developing nations are restraint in debts and in the classic modern day system of colonialism. Consequently, some of the former colonies now called (developing nations) have lost hope in the future of being self-sufficiency, while leaving future generations to contend with the problems of not being able to feed and educate themselves.  The declaration of independence for sovereignty without declaring independence for self-sufficiency leaves a country in the hands of the old system of colonialism.  I call this system “The Classic Modern Day Slavery of Countries” instead of territories.  Colonialism is the exploitation by a stronger country of weaker one; the use of the weaker country’s resources to strengthen and enrich the stronger country. Today, the colonial power is exploiting former colonies (developing nations) resources across the world. From Jamaica to Liberia—from Grenada to Guyana; from Trinidad and Tobago to Sierra Lone; from Cote d’Ivoire to Haiti, from Ghana to Guinea, while ordinary people in those countries are yet to feel the impact of their natural resources.

Many of these former colonies called developing nations today have sold their countries natural resources to their former colonial powers called developed nations without knowing it. While the ordinary people are struggling to feed their children, not talking about providing means for education. The young people are languishing in poverty without means of achieving college education and the elders are living without hope because of the residual side effects of colonialism. Today, many former colonies called developing nations do not recognize that decades of colonialism in those territories have left the education, economic, leadership, gender and empowerment vacuum that needs to be bridged by each succeeding generation, because it is the responsibility of each succeeding generation to move their country one-step closer to a perfect nation.

The good news about declaring the second declaration of independence for self-sufficiency is that the people do not need the approval of their former colonial powers now called developed nations. The visionary leaders of the future need to identify potential obstacles and gaps in the declaration process. The visionary leaders of the future need to eliminate potential obstacles and gaps in the declaration process. The visionary leaders of the future must declare independence for self-sufficiency by recognizing potential leaders like the elders, churches and the youth in the declaration process. The visionary leaders of the future need to mobilize the people around the vision of (Declaration of independence for self-sufficiency), while building cooperation and coordination among the people because the house that is divided cannot stand thereby allowing outsiders to destroy the vision of the declaration of independence for sufficiency.

The visionary leaders of the future must sit down and write a declaration for self-sufficiency that would lead to empowerment and human capital for ordinary people through a series of steps outlined from citizens’ participatory sessions. This process involved presenting the vision to the nation, while asking all citizens to come up with innovative ideas and a10 year commitment initiatives that will help the government declares self-sufficiency within 20 years of the declaration.

The innovative ideas could involved the following—reclaiming our independence for self-sufficiency, national identity, unity and achieving the greatest potential in the face of adversity. The government of Liberia must make the declaration of independence for self-sufficiency a national holiday in Liberia with the aim of reminding all Liberians, the government, parliament, including future generations of how far Liberia has come and what it takes to make Liberia self-sufficient—just like the children of Israel when God told them to put rocks in the center of the Jordan river as a reminder of His glorious saving power to future generations. The declaration of independence for self-sufficiency national holiday in Liberia will serve as a reminder of God’s glorious saving power of the Liberian’s State to future generations and the reminder of all good men and women who said enough is enough to the “Old System of Colonialism”.

In addition, effective cooperation and coordination will help to shun smear, propaganda, fraud, waste, corruption and lies in the declaration process because there will be some setbacks, fallouts, and some who will even quit because of lies, impatient, and/or cannot see the fruits right away. Your responsibility as visionary leaders is to keep the people motivated and focus on the tasks, while laying emphasis on the benefits to their children, communities, nation and the world at large.

With that being said, I am going to launch the “Declaration of Liberia and Africa Independence for Self—Sufficiency” Movement (The “D – LA – ISS Movement”) with the purpose of mobilizing the people around the vision of self-sufficiency in Liberia and the continent at large. We are going to build cooperation and coordination among our elders, churches, organizations and the youth across Liberia.  In this process, we are going to have group sessions with the aim of identifying potential obstacles and gaps in the declaration process, while providing innovative ideas and solutions that would eliminate those potential obstacles and gaps in the process. The “D – LA – ISS Movement” will patronize individuals, businesses, corporations and/or companies that have made commitments to help Liberia and Africa become sufficient in the areas shown below….In addition, we will encourage individuals, businesses, corporations and/or companies that have not, to do so because the movement will not hesitate to call on anyone, businesses, corporations and/or companies that have implemented the policies of exploitations in Liberia and Africa at large “enough is enough”.

  • The Quality & Quantity in today Education in Liberia and Africa
  • Self Sufficiency in Food production and other agricultural products in Liberia and Africa
  • 21 Century Technology Global Participations in Liberia and Africa
  • Citizens’ Empowerment and Participations in Liberia and Africa
  • Building Community Capacities for a better quality of life in Liberia and Africa

We are going to stand together for “Be the Movement of Change” a change where all Liberians have equal access to knowledge, including building community capacity for a better quality of life for all citizens—because we recognize the change Liberia needs to tomorrow will become what we and others do today. However, this challenge may be new, but our responsibility to help ensure equal access for the suffering children of Liberia--the youths and ordinary Liberians who are suffering goes back to the birth of our beloved country (Liberia).

The D--LA--ISS Movement believes this is a Joshua’s Generation therefore we cannot wait on the government do everything for us. The government is responsible to pave the way—however; it’s left with we the people to enter the promise land by reexamining ourselves and wanting to see Liberia and Africa become self—sufficiency, especially in food production. Just like Joshua, went he told the children of Israel to go and posses the land—Jesus is our Joshua, he told us to go posses everything the devil and the enemies of progress have stolen from us, which is our ability to become united, independent and self-sufficient in Africa.  Mahatma Gandhi said, “You must be the change you want to see in the world” and we have taken this message to heart. Our motto is “SELF—SUFFICIENCY BEFORE GROWTH WITHOUT DEVELOPMENT”

The Mission of the “D—LA—ISS Movement” is to create an awareness of the policies of dependency and its residual side effects on Liberia and Africa.  To forge an environment that provides opportunities and resources for Liberia and Africa self—sufficiency.

Our Vision is “A Liberia and Africa with food sufficiency, 21st Century Technology Global Participations, quality healthcare system, high standards in schools, investment in a 21st Century education, a modern infrastructure and efficient transport system, safe streets, safe drinking water, and a free, dynamic and competitive economy.

The Goal of the ““D—LA—ISS Movement” is to stress the importance of food sufficiency and the policies of growth and development across Liberia and Africa at large. To improve the quality of living standard and public policy through citizens’ participations and to offer practical approaches to those issues in language aimed at the public.
Issues like war, corruption, healthcare, environmental, global warming, etc. across Africa will be handled by the “D—LA—ISS Movement” network called The “Citizens and Voice of Africa”, which is the political arm of the Movement.  The “Citizens and Voice of Africa Network” aimed is to look at the big pictures—instead of calling on individual countries to address the issues. We will call on those communities the country is member of such as the Mane River Union (MRU), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS); East African Community (EAC); African Economic Community and Regional Economic Community (AEC & REC); the African Union (AU), etc. to address the issues in our respective countries. The purpose of this network is to create one voice for the youth across Africa.

God Bless Liberia and all Citizens of Africa
