An article written by Carlton Diahn recently appeared on the website of the Grand Gedeh Association in the Americas, Minnesota Chapter. Carlton is a young man and my cousin. His piece is so insightful that you want to wonder who is this guy. But he is a young Grand Gedean who is beginning to see things as they are in our community. People who aspire to the leadership of this community should try to get people like Carlton on your team. He is very conscientious as oppose to some of these way ward young people most of whom are surrounding Martha Kannah. Carlton did not insult anybody.
All he is saying is that Grand Gedeh Association can not be a strong and credible institution if it is not built on credibility and transparency. Some of these people mostly these hoodlums around Mrs. Kannah are only interested in insulting people because in their world, they have it made; they are officials of the Grand Gedeh Association and it does not matter how they got there. But hey, they were told that when you come to America, you associate with the Grand Gedeh Association and then you go to Liberia, get a big position no matter whether you are qualified for it or not. So, that is their mission and anyone who they perceive as the obstacle in the way, they will be derogatory towards you. These young people will insult me and call me names. They will insult the venerable and honorable Bai Gbala, Honorable Charles Breeze and other leaders in our community. The reason they are so bitter is that older people are telling them that you can not disrespect and disregard other people right on your way to power and stardom.
In his piece, Carlton expressed shock that individuals once consider as leaders in the community who should have been called upon to mediate in any dispute in the community are the ones who were instigating the controversies. This is what we have been saying all along. It is a good thing that young people like Carlton is seeing this.
This is the crux of Grand Gedeh Association problems. People served in leadership but would not want to let it go after their term is over. And don’t talk about it because they will come after you. I am sure Carlton has gotten a lot of phone calls.
Clash of agendas
I have sat back in the last couple of months and I have gotten a lot information about what is happening in the Grand Gedeh Association. What I am hearing is that it seems that chickens are coming home to roost. Apparently, these folks are trying to share the spoils of victory. But it seems that their agendas are different. On the one hand it is those with the supreme leader mentality; those who think that they are entitled to the right to appoint the leaders of the Grand Gedeh Associatiaon and any leader of the association must do what they say or they will undermine you and destroy you. These people are not politically popular in the community. These people do not have a core of supporters who they can galvanize to support them at the polls. Or a core of voters who are enthusiastic about them and would support a candidate of their choice if they are not on the ballot. They can never face electoral politics. But they still believe in their supremacy as a leader, like an ayatollah. Anytime they support a candidate, that candidate is soundly defeated. This time around in 2009 in Philadelphia, when they could not get the votes, they attempted to circumvent the process in a very disingenuous way. Hence the law suit . The limbo is known to the public. But there is a division going on. The leadership they are supporting does not share their agenda. This is a leadership that is made of a lot of criminals and immature people. Their goal is to get to the association’s account. It was public knowledge that the Grand Gedeh Association had $33,000 physical cash in the bank. The first thing, while the election results were in dispute, a group of ignoramous who call themselves the board of directors authorize the so-called administration to take hold of the association’ account. They took hold of the account but the chairman is now complaining about accountability. But is n’t that is what we have been talking about? You are dealing with a bunch of criminals; some with criminal charges against them for bank fraud, insurance fraud, with two or three social security cards, two or three driver’s licenses and going to the extend of purchasing academic degrees to get professional jobs. I know these things because I know some of these people personally and professionally. And they are going to Liberia to represent Grand Gedeans in America? We really need to think about these things very seriously. But maybe we deserve these people as our leaders. Marion Barry, the former mayor of the city of Washington D.C was arrested in a hotel room for smoking crack cocaine. During the next election circle, he was re-elected Mayor of DC.
The conservative commentator Patrick Buchanan when asked about the episode playing out in DC, he said” a people deserve the leader they get”
Do Grand Gedeans deserve the leadership they have now? It is up to our young people like Carlton Diahn to set us straight.
